Denver Chiropractors For Sciatic Treatment

Do you have pain that shoots from your back down either one or both of your legs? Does it hurt to sit down, to straighten your leg, or to walk? Then you might be suffering from sciatica. In this article, you will read about Denver chiropractors for Sciatic Treatment.

Before the l930s, doctors didn’t have all the facts about what causes sciatica. Then they discovered that a great deal of both back and leg pain came from the herniation or rupturing of one or more of the lower discs.

Reasons of sciatica Pain

As you age, so do your discs. Between ages twenty and thirty, they begin to wear more easily, according to the amount of pressure and movement the spine you put on the spine.

Work routine

The type of work you do is a big factor in the wear-and-tear it receives. Repeated lifting can cause herniation – the bulging of the disk through the vertebrae. So, too, can long periods of sitting, such as working at a computer or driving long distances in a truck or car.

Discs Herniate

In addition, some discs herniate more easily than others. The lumbar vertebrae (the lowest five) and the cervical vertebrae (those in your neck) are the most frequent culprits. When your body works right, the discs lose and then absorb a little bit of water and nutrients from the blood to keep them supple. Often after the age of thirty, this balancing act doesn’t work as efficiently, and soon the discs lose more water than they absorb. They dry out, and the discs’ thickness begins to shrink. It’s normal, and it happens to everyone.

Just look at an older person - almost all of them have lost two to three inches from their young-adult height because of this process. However, the drying out can also cause the outer disc core to rupture, and some of the soft inner core can leak out. If it presses against the sciatic nerve root, pain can follow.

Some other causes

Sciatic pain can also be caused by muscle and back spasms, injuries, infections, tumors, arthritis, and ankylosing spondyltis. The latter is a severe inflammation of the spinal joints, which then stiffen and cause agonizing, chronic lower back pain.

What are some sciatic symptoms?

Sciatica has a wide-ranging span of symptoms. Pain from a bulging disc, if it does not press on the nerve, may be nonexistent. However, a ruptured disc’s pain, especially if the core presses on the sciatic nerve, is often sudden and electric. It may be followed by a burning sensation and even a numbing and tingling in the affected area. Also, you may experience some stiffness in the legs and pain when you move them.

How can you tell if it’s sciatica?

You have back and leg pain, but is it from the sciatic nerve? You need a medical diagnosis. X-rays of the lumbar region of your spine can’t show a ruptured disc because they image only bones. However, they can reveal other, often more severe conditions, such as cancer, fractures, and arthritis damage to the vertebrae.

The CAT (computerized axial tomography) pinpoints the lower back and lumbar vertebrae and can show up to 75% of herniated discs, when done properly. It is generally the best way to locate the source of the pain.
